The short answer: Diodes announced four automotive-compliant 60 V field-plated Super Barrier Rectifiers on September 24, covering 2 A, 3 A and 8 A ratings in three packages. Engineers should compare the exact orderable suffix, current, forward drop, leakage, surge behavior, footprint and thermal path before approving a candidate. Buyers should request written ATP and an updated quotation now: three exact DigiKey pages are available to order but not stocked, with displayed manufacturer-standard lead-time fields of 16, 24 and 40 weeks. Those fields are not delivery commitments.
What changed on September 24
Diodes introduced a four-device automotive SBRFP family in its September 24 manufacturer announcement. The family spans compact PowerDI123, SMAF and PowerDI5 packages and targets DC-DC conversion, reverse-polarity protection, battery charging, automotive lighting and transmission-control functions. The announcement says the devices are automotive compliant; the individual datasheets state AEC-Q101 qualification, PPAP capability and manufacture in IATF 16949-certified facilities.
The launch matters because it creates several design paths inside one 60 V family. It does not create one universal substitute. The 2 A parts alone use different packages and reel quantities. The 8 A part has a larger thermal platform and a different leakage profile. Procurement therefore needs the complete MPN, not the unsuffixed family name, while engineering needs the actual operating point and board thermal environment.
Diodes also published 1,000-piece reference prices of $0.08, $0.11, $0.13 and $0.26 for the four base devices. Those launch references should not be compared directly with a distributor's 5,000- or 10,000-piece tape-and-reel tiers. Quantity, packaging, region, quote date and commercial terms differ.
Exact MPN and package map
| Orderable MPN | Rating and package | Verified ordering detail | Design point to review |
|---|---|---|---|
SBRFP2M60P1Q-7 |
60 V, 2 A, PowerDI123 | 3,000-piece tape and reel | 0.58 V maximum forward voltage at 2 A and 25°C; compact footprint and board-level thermal path |
SBRFP2M60SAFQ-13 |
60 V, 2 A, SMAF | 10,000-piece tape and reel | 0.58 V maximum at 2 A and 25°C; 12 µA maximum leakage at 60 V and 25°C |
SBRFP3M60SAFQ-13 |
60 V, 3 A, SMAF | 10,000-piece tape and reel | 0.62 V maximum at 3 A and 25°C; 7 µA maximum leakage at 60 V and 25°C |
SBRFP8A60P5Q-13 |
60 V, 8 A, PowerDI5 | 5,000-piece tape and reel | 0.55 V maximum at 8 A and 25°C; 135 µA maximum leakage at 60 V and 25°C |
All four datasheets specify an operating and storage temperature range from -55°C to +175°C. Their non-repetitive avalanche ratings are test-condition specific: 145 mJ for the 2 A PowerDI123 device, 53 mJ for the 2 A SMAF device, 120 mJ for the 3 A SMAF device and 108 mJ for the 8 A PowerDI5 device. Those headline values are not a standalone ranking because the test current and inductance differ. Review the full curves and the real transient waveform.
What the public channel pages show today
Three exact DigiKey US pages provide a useful public baseline. On September 27, SBRFP2M60SAFQ-13 showed “Available To Order,” not kept in stock, a 24-week manufacturer-standard lead-time field and $0.10865 at 10,000 pieces. SBRFP3M60SAFQ-13 showed the same stock wording, a 16-week field and $0.12894 at 10,000. SBRFP8A60P5Q-13 showed the same wording, a 40-week field and $0.28829 at 5,000.
This is a regional, single-channel observation, not global supply. “Available To Order” does not mean material is on the shelf. A standard lead-time field is not written available-to-promise, allocation status or a confirmed ship date. The public page for SBRFP2M60P1Q-7 did not yield independently verifiable current ATP in this review, so no supply quantity or lead-time claim is made for that MPN.
The useful decision is to start a controlled RFQ, not to infer a shortage. Ask the authorized channel or manufacturer to return the full MPN, region, MOQ, SPQ, reel format, date-code policy, committed ship schedule, PPAP availability and validity period. Preserve the response alongside the BOM revision so a future quote can be compared on equal terms.
Engineering review before any substitution
Diodes describes the new family as suitable for replacing comparable Schottky and PN junction diodes. That is a product-positioning statement, not approval for a BOM swap. Treat every proposed replacement as a candidate that requires validation. Begin with reverse-voltage margin, steady and pulsed current, forward drop at the actual junction temperature, leakage across the operating range, surge and avalanche conditions, reverse recovery, power dissipation and derating.
Then check the physical and manufacturing interface. PowerDI123, SMAF and PowerDI5 are not interchangeable land patterns. Confirm polarity marking, package outline, pad geometry, stencil, placement, reflow profile, AOI visibility, creepage needs and heat spreading. For the 8 A device, the datasheet's low junction-to-case thermal resistance still depends on the board and heat path. A headline current rating cannot replace a thermal model and bench measurement.
Automotive qualification also needs program-level evidence. Request the applicable PPAP package and clarify change-control expectations. AEC-Q101 qualification is important, but it does not prove that a candidate meets a vehicle platform's mission profile, EMC environment, transient exposure, functional-safety assumptions or approved vendor-list rules.
A practical BOM and sourcing action plan
- Normalize the BOM. Search for the complete orderable strings, including
-7and-13. Do not merge the four devices under a family-level description. - Choose the engineering branch. Match package, current, thermal path and transient duty. Record any incumbent-to-new-part mapping only as a candidate pending validation.
- Request an updated quotation. Ask for regional ATP, committed lead time, MOQ, SPQ, reel quantity, date-code policy, traceability and PPAP documentation in one dated response.
- Run PCBA verification. Review footprint and polarity, then test forward loss, junction temperature, reverse leakage and the relevant transient or load-dump condition on representative hardware.
- Release with evidence. Link the engineering review, approved manufacturer status and commercial quote to the BOM revision before a production PO.
If you want a line-by-line comparison against your incumbent rectifiers, send the public part numbers and target operating conditions through our electronic components sourcing page. Informic can prepare a candidate matrix, obtain an updated quotation and coordinate an engineering review without treating any candidate as approved in advance.
Facts, judgment and recommendation boundaries
Verified facts: Diodes published the launch on September 24, 2026. The four manufacturer datasheets support the exact orderable MPNs, packages, reel quantities and electrical values summarized above. The three cited DigiKey pages displayed the stated stock wording, lead-time fields and price tiers when checked on September 27.
Professional judgment: The family is worth reviewing where conduction loss, high-temperature leakage or transient ruggedness is constraining an automotive power path. Public channel divergence also makes an early quote useful. This is an assessment, not evidence of allocation, rising demand or a global shortage.
Recommendation: Run engineering and commercial qualification in parallel, using exact MPNs and equal quote conditions. No part in this article is an approved alternate for an incumbent unless the manufacturer or the reader's own controlled engineering process explicitly establishes that status.
Observation boundary: Distributor inventory, prices and lead-time fields can change without notice and are regional snapshots. Manufacturer launch prices and distributor reel prices use different quantity bases. Written ATP and a dated quotation remain the decision documents.
Frequently Asked Questions
